Promises in the Wilderness: 20 Glimpses of God’s Faithfulness in the Desert

“Wilderness”. The word alone conjures up many ideas.Empty. Barren. Dry. Lost. Vast. Harsh. Solitary. Isolated. Unknown. Stark. Never-ending. It’s easy to become discouraged, despondent, and angry. We want out, and we want out now—by any means possible.

In Exodus 16:10, as Israel is complaining about the lack of food in the desert, this happens: “And as Aaron spoke to the whole congregation of Israel, they looked toward the wilderness, and behold, the glory of the Lord appeared in the cloud!” The Israelites turned to face the wilderness, and that’s where God appeared to them. We often want to find any means of escape to run away from our own wilderness. But it is often in the wilderness that God meets us.
