This blog is not at all intended to become my personal health update! But I always try to discover truth and identify things that God may be wanting to show me in the midst of pain.
It’s now been about four and a half months since “the injury” that’s caused seemingly continual hip pain over the last several months and largely sidelined me from my all-time favorite activity: running. It’s very weird not doing something you’ve done consistently for the last 25 years.
I think about two weeks ago we (my chiro, PT, and I) finally identified a main source of the continued pain that didn’t want to stay away. Yes, it still hurts—quite a lot truth be told—but I think we are on the right track.
What does this have to do with spiritual lessons?
Well, it seems the source of a lot of this pain is actually in a muscle that’s not even a hip muscle but that can send pain signals to the hip.
While I’ve been spending months working on healing/releasing/strengthening hip muscles, yes, that helped but it didn’t get to the source of the pain.
It turns out pain is a great noisemaker but not necessarily a great communicator.
This same is true with spiritual and emotional pain. We know it’s there, but so often we fail to recognize what it’s telling us.
So we imagine and chase solutions that never get to the source of what needs healing.
We’re discontent so think if only we had a better job, better house, better children, better spouse, better “insert item here” – then our pain would lessen.
But the truth is we were created for Jesus, and He alone can heal the deep ache that shoots pain signals to many other parts of our being.
We can try to numb, soothe, or solve these pains in many ways, but they’ll always return until we let Jesus heal the source—the real injury or malfunction.
I love how one song puts it, referring to Christ’s sacrifice on the cross for us: “letting Himself bleed into the middle of our wounds”.
Pain is annoying, frustrating, and sometimes debilitating. But let’s stop trying to soothe it with things that can never bring lasting relief.
Psalm 147:3: “He heals the broken-hearted and binds up their wounds.
Loved this. Very profound.
Good stuff right here my friend!
Doing the Lords work in the midst of pain is not easy, thank you for not casting aside your calling, thank you for pressing on past the physical pain, bless you and may you get full healing.
Amen – I’m believing for full healing, too. Thank you xo
I am ever so and increasingly proud of you. Your words of wisdom continue to astound me.
A profound truth encased in beautiful words: “But the truth is we were created for Jesus, and He alone can heal the deep ache that shoots pain signals to many other parts of our being.” Thank you, Gina, for another transformative post.
